Carolina Sky 2015!

Howdy, Friends!

Yeah, I can’t believe how dormant we’ve been on this site. All apologies. MBG has been anything but dormant, though. Lots of gigs so far in 2015. New songs. I even got a new pair of shoes. Whew. It’s been a whirlwind.

Why have we chosen today to reestablish contact? Well, I’d like to think we’ve remained in contact through live shows, Facebook, Twitter, etc., but we want to make sure that ALL of our friends know about this year’s Carolina Sky Music Fest. Yes, indeed. The 3rd annual. Bigger. Better. More bands. More fun. More sunshine.* More, um, time. Yep, that’s right. 2 days of music this year!

Let’s get to the important stuff. The music. You’ll recognize some familiar musicians. You’ll also get the chance to hear what may be some new favorites.
Here’s the skinny.

Saturday, August 29th, 11:00am-9:00pm

Sunday, August 30th, 10:00am-3:00pm

Advance tickets are available for $30 until this Friday, August 21st. Then there’s a slight jump to $40. Tickets include 2 drink tix + all the music your heart desires. If you’d like to camp on Saturday night (hey, that sounds like fun), it’s a mere $10 per site. That includes coffee & a light breakfast, too. Man, this whole thing seems like a good deal. There’ll be a food truck on site but, as always, coolers & picnics are welcome. Please do not bring any outside alcohol, though. Round Peak makes some of the best beer & wine in the area, so you’ll be just fine.

You can order your advance tickets right here — https://roundpeak.com/shop/product/carolina-sky-music-fest-skull-camp-out-aug-29-30/
You may also get them by calling Round Peak Vineyard — 336.352.5595

Did I miss anything? As always, we’re here to help!
See you soon.

Carolina Sky Music Festival!

Hi, friends!

Long time, no speak. I know… that’s becoming a trend. And I don’t like it. We really have been being productive musically, just not always within the confines of MBG. But now it’s time to be productive, MBG-style.

We’re unbelievably happy to be hosting the 1st Annual Carolina Sky Music Festival, this Saturday, August 31st! It will be held at Round Peak Vineyard from noon until 9:00, and features many of our favorite local & regional musician friends. Let me give you the lowdown on those friends. They are (in order of festival appearance)…

Jerry Chapman
Brian Gray & Co.
Doug Davis & the Solid Citizens
Vel Indica
Janus 4:14
George Smith
Les Slate
The Twang Doctors
Steve Lindsley
… and us… Mediocre Bad Guys

Tickets are $10 in advance & $15 at the door. $5 for kids 12 & under. Free for kids 5 & under. Also free for puppies.

Advance tickets can be purchased by calling Round Peak Vineyard or by visiting www.roundpeak.com > click “Our Wines” > click “Order Here” > simply put “Carolina Sky Music Fest” & # of tickets desired in the “Comments” box.
I can also answer any questions and/or take credit card orders at jtclig.

We will also be offering a limited number of VIP seats/tables. These will be on the crush pad surrounding the bands. This is a covered area and will provide a nice “base camp” for the day, should people desire it. These are $5 extra per seat, with proceeds going to the Jimmy Lowery Scholarship Fund.

Again, please feel free to contact me with any questions. And please check out the Facebook event page… https://www.facebook.com/events/292699110874493/

See you Saturday!

Hello, we’ve missed you.

Hi, friends!

Yep, I know we haven’t written in a while. We’re still very much alive & kicking. As you know, we’ve been going through some changes. I’m pretty sure we’re finding our mojo again.

So anyway…
3 things…

1. Hello.
2. We’ll be playing at Finnigan’s Wake in Winston tonight. Les, is still on a top-secret mission, so it’s kinda fake MBG. It’s still going to be amazing fun, though.
3. Former MBG-er Steve Lindsley is playing at Round Peak Vineyard in Mount Airy tonight. A great way to spend a Saturday evening.

3&1/2. Check out our latest original tune (“Holding On”) right here… http://mediocrebadguys.bandcamp.com/track/holding-on.

See you soon!

3 is the magic number.

Hi, friends!

Jerry here. It’s been a long time since I’ve written a blog post for MBG. The time seems right.

So… 3 is the magic number?

MBG has 3 gigs coming up in the next few days. And not just 3 gigs. 3 gigs with 3 different line-ups.

Tonight we’ll be playing Ziggy’s (www.ziggyrock.net) down in Winston-Salem. Would be a stretch to call Ziggy’s one of NC’s premiere venues? I think not. Anyway, we’ll be doing a set of mostly original material. Who is we? Les & me, of course, and Doug (as per usual) on guitar. We’ll also be joined by our friend Benjy Johnson on guitar, as well as pedal steel monster Rick Nathey. There’ll be some other fine bands, too! Suitcase. They’re awesome. Lions & Liars (or is it Liars & Lions?). I haven’t seen them yet, but I think they’ll be awesome, too. Doors at 8:00pm. Music at 9:00pm.

Tomorrow we’re playing a private party. Rock & roll electric 3-piece. Listen for the noise.

Monday night we’ll be playing the big New Year’s Eve shindig at Old North State Winery. I heard that tickets were selling fast, so it might not be a bad idea to go ahead and get yours now. We’ll be rockin’ from 9:00pm until 1:00am or so. And… we’ll be joined on guitar by George Smith! George has played in some great local bands (Porch Dog Revival, Mood Cultivation Experiment, etc.), and now he’s going to be a Bad Guy for a night. Yep. Awesome.

3 is the magic number?

We’ll be releasing 3 songs in January.
I know we’re a bit behind in our song of the month deal. Well, we’ll be caught up in January, since we’ll be releasing 3 at once. Can you handle 12 minutes of MBG in one sitting? I think you can.

3 is the magic number?

As of January, MBG will be down to 3. That’s not really magic, but it is indeed happening.
Most of you know that Steve will be stepping away for the MBG stage at the end of the year. No drama. No lawsuits. Just time for a change. I hope you’ll take time to read about his decision here… http://stevelindsley.typepad.com/thoughtsandmusings/. We obviously wish him nothing less than the best. And I’d be shocked if he didn’t end up back on an MBG stage on occasion.

There you have it. The latest & greatest from MBG.
We hope that you had a fantastic 2012 and that 2013 is even better.
Best,
Jerry/MBG

Mediocre Bad Guys with Tin Can Sailor – Saturday, Sept. 29th at Old North State Winery

Folks, we’re pretty darn excited about our upcoming show on Sept. 29th at Old North State Winery in downtown Mount Airy.  And not just because we love it there and love playing for the hometown crowd.  We’re also psyched to have Tin Can Sailor back with us.  If you caught our show with them earlier this year, you know these cats from Raleigh are a fun group of talented musicians and songwriters. No wonder we love hanging with ’em.

What’s your fav MBG song? And our upcoming show at The Garage

Hello MBG faithful!  Two things to share with you on this Tuesday afternoon:

FIRST – we’ve got a fantastic show coming up at The Garage in Winston-Salem next week.  If you don’t know The Garage, it’s a wonderful little original live music venue in the arts district of downtown.  We’ll be there Friday, August 10th along with some other great acts.  Here’s the lineup:

8:00 – Kaleigh Baker
9:00 – James Arlowe and the Ruffian Circus
10:15 – MBG
11:30 – Sunshone Still

Cover is only $7 – not too bad for four bands. Consider marking it down in permanent ink on your calendar and encouraging your friends to do the same.  If you do the Facebook thing, you can RSVP and share the link HERE.

SECOND – hard to believe that we’ve been at this “download a month” thing for a year, but it’s true.  We’ve got eleven original tunes that, as you hopefully know by now, you can listen to online and download by naming your price HERE.  We think they’re all pretty swell, but we’d love to hear what YOU think! So if you would, please take a minute to complete this extremely non-complicated poll on your top five MBG original tunes. You know those online surveys that go on forever and take up way too much of a summer weekday afternoon?  Trust us, this isn’t one of those.  Just click your top five songs and you’re done.

Thanks for letting us know what you think, thanks for coming to our shows, thanks for listening to our tunes.  In short, thanks!

Les, Jerry, Doug, Steve
